Officials training

5/11/2017

Wanda parents…Will your child take part in carnivals this season? We need you to become an official. Wanda Nippers has a shortage of trained officials. Each carnival we attend, we’re required to provide a certain number of trained water safety and officials. If we don’t have the numbers, our kids can’t take part. Officiating roles include referees, starters, judges, recorders and marshals across all of the surf sports disciplines (flags, sprints, surf race, board etc).

Officials officiate at our Championship Days and at carnivals when you are available - officials select the area they wish to officiate in, so you can be in the same area as your child.

More information: Steve Doran, Wanda Nippers Officials Coordinator  Officials@wandanippers.com.au

To become an official, you need to complete training - both an online course and practical training. Here's how:

1. Let our Official Coordinator Steve Doran you plan to do the course
Email officials@wandanippers.com.au

  • You will need to be a Wanda SLSC member. If you're not a current member of Wanda, you need to join. Read the rego instructions here to join
  • Do not login as your child - you need to be the member, otherwise the qualification will be attributed to your child and cannot be transferred.
  • Once logged in and on the home page of the SLSA Members Portal then click ‘Courses’
  • Click on eLearning login
  • Click on ‘Training Library’ at the top right of the page
  • Select SLS – Sport, this will give you a list of available courses
  • Select the course which you would like to complete. CORE - 2 modules or TECHNICAL - 3 modules. We suggest TECHNICAL.
3. Make payment
You will then be asked to pay for this course online. Note that you need to pay $60. Send Steve Doran officials@wandanippers.com.au the receipt and the club will reimburse this money after the Branch carnival (Feb 11) as long as you have officiated at a few carnivals.

4. Complete the course
Complete the three online modules. You will be emailed a certificate of completion.

5. Register for the practical
Email Sydney branch admin@surflifesavingsydney.com.au  Let them know you have completed the online course. You will be asked to nominate for a carnival where you will be assessed (the upcoming Cronulla carnival or the Bate Bay 4 way would be great!). An assessment form will be completed and all going well you will be accredited. For four years!
