Officials

Wanda parents…
Will your child take part in carnivals this season?
We need you to become an official.

If your nipper will be taking part in carnivals this season, we are urging you to become an accredited surf sports official. Wanda Nippers has a shortage of trained officials. Each carnival we attend, we’re required to provide a certain number of trained water safety and officials. If we don’t have the numbers, our kids can’t take part.

Officiating roles include referees, starters, judges, recorders and marshals across all of the surf sports disciplines (flags, sprints, surf race, board etc).

What’s involved?
  • Attend a 3-4 hour training course, mix of classroom and practical
  • You go through a probationary period and are paired up with experienced officials
  • Officiate at carnivals when you are available
  • Officials select the area they wish to officiate in, so you can be in the same area as your child.
Upcoming Level One Officials training course…….

Wednesday 5th October, North Cronulla SLSC  6pm
or
Wednesday 9th November, Sydney Branch Office, Little Bay   6pm

Course cost will be met by Wanda

More on officiating

Accredited Surf Sports officials are essential to the success of any surf carnival or event. Officials are required at all levels of competition. There are three levels of officials’ accreditation:

  • Level One Officials Course, requiring re-licensing every four years
  • Level Two Officials Course, requiring re-licensing every four years
  • Level Three Officials Course, requiring re-licensing every four years
All levels of officials’ accreditation share three basic objectives:
  • To educate members to successfully administer their duties
  • Ensure that each member who is appointed an official at any carnival, event or championship has the best understanding of Surf Sports
  • Ensure that there are sufficient qualified officials available to conduct Surf Sports activities at all levels.
